Whether it is exploring interior and external worlds as seen in Mind Zero (Saatchi) or it is steeped in poetic research as the works of the Gusto series, Nancy’s production brings contemplative attention to her subjects, be it the domestic, the figurative or the natural world.
Cadogan paints from imagination and observation to explore themes of literature, time, and still moments. Her paintings invite the viewer to share her joyful appreciation of contemplative observation. "Drawing is a fundamental part of my practice. I try to draw almost every day, either in the studio or out and about. This work, that I am delighted to donate to this cause, captures a moment: of getting a day’s worth of feelings down on paper in one expression. I wanted the piece to be one of hope - of warmth and peace. The yellow and warm pink and impressive oak outside. About the Artist
Nancy Cadogan is a British figurative painter living in the UK. She attended City and Guilds of London Art School and Canterbury Christ Church University from which she graduated with a Degree in Fine Art Painting in 2002.
Following the success of her 2017 solo show Still Reading, Nancy was selected alongside Tracy Emin, Rachel Whiteread and Cornelia Parker as one of 93 British female artists for The Ned Hotel’s Vault 100 collection.
Her 2019 solo Saatchi exhibition ‘Mind Zero’ marked a bold new direction for the artist and the painting of interior and exterior worlds were described by the Evening Standard as ‘heaven on a canvas.’ ‘Footnotes’, Nancy’s follow-up exhibition for The British Art Fair, continued the artist’s bold new direction.
In 2020, The Keats-Shelley House commissioned Cadogans’s first institutional show in Rome. Her work now features in numerous private collections both in the UK and internationally.
Nancy’s latest project, ‘The Lost Trees’, explores our relationship with trees, time, and the natural world. She is examining what it means to make paintings within the conversation of sustainability and was invited to the Paris Green Week held at the British Ambassador’s Residence for a live painting performance, and a Q and A with the Government Art Collection.
Cadogan has been exhibiting her work globally since 2004 with shows in London, New York, Rome, Oslo and Miami.
